KI Het Bokt is a specialised equine reproduction centre, located in a brand-new facility in Pelt, Limburg. Not by coincidence, right in the heart of the equestrian world.
KI Het Bokt is part of Dierenartsenpraktijk Dhondt BV, founded by veterinarian Steven Dhondt and his wife, veterinarian Liesbeth Winters. They are also managing directors of Paardenkliniek Het Bokt BV in Peer and Clinique Équine de Septon BV in Durbuy, both surgical centres for horses. Small animals are treated at Dierenartsenpraktijk De Kolis BV in Pelt, while ruminants receive the best possible care from Dierenartsenpraktijk Vee-kracht BV.
KI Het Bokt is run by veterinarians Steven Dhondt, Wouter Pollet and Katrien Houben, together with stable manager Yvo Aegten.
Veterinarian Steven Dhondt is originally from Nazareth, East Flanders, and graduated in 2004. He specialises in horses and cattle and, in addition to being a passionate veterinarian, is also a driven entrepreneur (see also www.hetbokt.be and www.dierenarts-dhondt-winters.be).
Veterinarian Katrien Houben is from Houthalen and graduated in 2015. After her studies, she completed a one-year internship at Ghent University. She then started working with great dedication as an equine veterinarian at Het Bokt, both on ambulatory practice and in the clinic. Later, she continued her education and specialised further in reproduction.
Since August 2025, veterinarian Wouter Pollet has also joined the team. Wouter is originally from West Flanders and graduated in 2002. Immediately after graduating, he went abroad to gain experience. As an equine veterinarian, he worked for several years in, among others, Ireland, England, the Netherlands and Germany. Wouter managed the reproduction centre Equisana for 10 years and is well known for his expertise and precise approach.
Stable manager Yvo Aegten is the indispensable linchpin who takes care of the stables and the horses—and so much more! He assists with semen collection, helps with difficult mares, and is a true handyman and jack-of-all-trades.
KI Het Bokt grew out of Steven’s busy ambulatory practice. As there are only 24 hours in a day and it became impossible to scan all mares at home, a stable was built in Peer (now Paardenkliniek Het Bokt). This allowed insemination with frozen semen and closer monitoring of more challenging mares. In addition, mares came to foal, and the first stallions arrived for semen collection.
But together you can always do more than alone. With the arrival of Katrien, the services expanded further to include embryo flushing and semen freezing. Embryo flushing was on the rise, and the first recipient mares were purchased for embryo transfer of both fresh and frozen embryos. KI Het Bokt was recognised as a European breeding station. Semen collected at our centre can be shipped throughout Europe, both fresh and frozen. However, we have never limited ourselves to our own stallions. At the owner’s request, we order and store semen from the stallion of your choice.
The stable in Peer soon became too small, which led to our move to this brand-new centre—where we are delighted to welcome you!
We create your champions!
